If the designs and applications are approved as expected, Sydney could soon have a new tallest office building with project management and construction giants Lendlease lodging a development application for a 55-storey office building located at Sydney’s Circular Quay.
The project, designed by global architecture firm Foster + Partners, has a proposed height of a towering 263m, which when completed would make it the tallest office building in Sydney.
In what will be the latest component of the $3.7 billion expansion and development of Circular Quay, the project is expected to cost almost $546 million to complete.
The development comes as a refreshing facelift for the Harbour City which will see 45 per cent of the precinct be used for community infrastructure, which includes multiple retail laneways, two public plazas, a public cycle facility, public art and a three-storey community building.
“We have developed a scheme that opens the ground plane to create as much community infrastructure as possible,” said Lendlease managing director Mark Menhinnitt.
The development application is currently on public display but first will be subject to approval by the Central Sydney Planning Committee. However it’s almost certain the plans will be approved as early works have already begun, with consent to demolish the site already given.
Once completed, the tower will boast some of the best views Sydney has to offer.
“With many levels boasting spectacular views of Sydney’s landmarks, the tower will encompass functionally flexible open-space floor plates that enjoy north-facing workspaces,” said Gerard Evenden, Foster + Partners’ senior executive partner.
